Evening Seine River Cruise
- Evening cruise on the River Seine with music
- A glass of champagne, wine or beer (if selected)
- Tour app with information about the monuments
LES INVALIDES & MUSÉE D'ORSAY
You will first pass by Les Invalides, a complex from the 17th century built for disabled veterans. King Louis XIV wanted to honor the sacrifices of the soldiers who fought in his wars. Next up is the Musée d'Orsay, which mainly features French art from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The building used to be a railway station called Gare d'Orsay, which became outdated due to improvements in technology.
SEE THE EIFFEL TOWER AND NOTRE DAME
The Evening Seine River Cruise offers breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower at sunset. It is the symbol of France and the most visited paid monument in the world, with seven million visitors each year! The Île de la Cité is an island in the Seine. Its shape resembles a ship, and it is the historical center of Paris. The Notre Dame Cathedral is situated on the island. Its name means "Our Lady", and it is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The entrance features three portals–the Portal of the Virgin, the Portal of the Last Judgment, and the Portal of Saint-Anne. It took two centuries to complete the cathedral!
THE FAMOUS LOUVRE MUSEUM
Next up is the Louvre, which exhibits many of the world's masterpieces. The most famous one, of course, is the Mona Lisa. There is also "The Winged Victory of Samothrace", which was made as an offering to the ancient Greek gods. The famous painting "Liberty Leading the People" pays tribute to the July Revolution, when people fought against orders from Charles X.
PLACE DE LA CONCORDE, HÔTEL DE VILLE & GRAND PALAIS
The Place de la Concorde is a public square built in honor of King Louis XV. Many royals were executed here during the French Revolution, including Louis XVI. The square is adorned with the Egyptian Luxor Obelisk from about 1300 BCE. You will also see the Hôtel de Ville or City Hall, which has been rebuilt several times, and which saw many popular uprisings, including the revolutions of 1789, 1830, and 1848. Finally, the Grand Palais is an exhibition hall and museum complex known for its glass roof and Art Nouveau elements. You can also spot the Institut de France, which is the umbrella organization of five academies.
